If you saw the coverage of, or were lucky enough to attend, CES 2012, you will have heard about the newest thing to hit the TV market: OLED screens. Now what’s all the hype about? Well here’s a breakdown of OLED screens and their future.

  • What’s difference between LED and OLED?

LED (Light-Emitting Diode) is the current technology being used in big screen TVs. The TV contains a LCD screen and needs a backlight to control the brightness of the TV. OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) contains a carbon film between the semiconductors (hence the ‘Organic’ in the name) and this helps the TV create its own light when electricity passes through.

  • So which is better?

VOIP (Voice/Video Over Internet Protocol) based business phone systems are the biggest thing to hit the internet market since the invention of Windows 95. The telephone line is dead. Why would you want to pay $5 a minute to make a call overseas when you can be paying 15 cents? That is not were it stops. You can have one central number for all of your calls around the world, and then divert them to the right people, anywhere in the world. You can have a number for each country of your target market, which is diverted to your home number, all data is collected and compared with your CRM software and then the call is forwarded to your outsourced to your professional inbound call centre. They are well known for their ability, and the way they convert business. In this article, we are going to step away from the technology for once, and look at what ‘human factors’ we can add to our system to make it easier and smoother for our clients, friends, and business partners to use…

As a real technology enthusiast, I like to look at the positives when considering all forms of technology. I love to play with new gadgets, always looking to ensure that I get my hands on different items at the earliest possible opportunity.

When it comes to computers, I find that I can’t resist playing with new pieces of software. You may well have the same feelings!

In the world of work, computers seem to have become central to our lives. We rely on them to an extraordinary level. They have transformed the way in which we work. It seems amazing to think about how things have changed, even within the last decade or so.

With the specifications regarding the Google Nexus Prime leaked to the press, we can finally start comparing it to the other major smartphones on the market. As Google recently acquired Motorola Mobility, we thought it might be interesting to pit the Google Nexus Prime head to head with the Motorola Atrix and see which of the step siblings comes out on top.

Dimensions and Form

·         Motorola Atrix - 117.8 x 63.5 x 11mm, 135g

·         Google Nexus Prime – Unreleased

Up until this point, Google's smartphones were manufactured by Samsung with a chassis and hardware that reflected that partnership. However, with the recent acquisition, it would not be surprising to see Motorola develop the Nexus Prime's build.

South Africa’s cell phone network providers behave as though they never left the playground. They report each other to the teachers, poke each other in the eye and sulk in detention. More often than not MTN and Vodacom gang up on Cell C – perhaps because it asks for it, perhaps it makes it easy, or perhaps MTN and Vodacom can’t forgive it for trespassing on their territory. This usually results in some kind of retaliation. It doesn’t matter who’s pointing fingers at whom, all the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) of South Africa wants is for the three to leave it alone.

There have been two recent developments in the cell phone advertising wars:

It seems Star Trekkin had it right all along, but when The Firm penned those lyrics they probably didn’t think that they could be applied to life here on Earth. Scientists have been looking for “alternative microbes” also known in scientific circles as “weird life” for years. Specifically, they’re looking for life that doesn’t conform to normal standards; that is, life that doesn’t necessarily rely on the elements carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, sulphur, nitrogen and phosphorous. And now they’ve found it.

Fittingly, the alien life on Earth was discovered by scientists from NASA. It’s a bacteria that is able to substitute arsenic for phosphorous and still continue reproducing and growing. The bacteria, called GFAJ-1 was found in Mono Lake in California. The lake has something of a reputation for being weird owing to its high levels salinity, alkalinity and arsenic, so perhaps it’s no wonder that the bacteria evolved to survive on the deadly poison.
