If you’re a gamer you may have been paying attention to the news that Razer ™ will soon be releasing what it calls the world’s first gaming laptop. This is not merely a laptop that is able to run games; it’s a laptop dedicated solely to games. And one of its key selling features is that it’s more portable than most other laptops designed to accommodate big games. That means it’s very, very thin.

Let’s start with its name: Razer™ Blade. It’s supposed to distil the essence of the machine – cutting edge, sleek and paper thin.

Then there are the specs:

Is it a smart phone? Is it a tablet? No it's a smartablet.

Think about the gadgets you own; cell phone, laptop, tablet, and camera. Anything else? With the amount of gizmos on the market more and more people end up with a whole range devices. You would have thought that by now one company would be smart enough to develop a device that could do it all in one go. Perhaps we’re closer to that than we think.

Jaymi Heimbuch reports on Team Treehugger that people don’t buy tablet devices instead of something; they just get added to the long list of gadgets we can’t live without. But electronic giant Samsung might change all that. Apparently it’s working on a tablet device that might make them a must-have gadget instead of one of convenience.

As technology moves swiftly forward we are seeing smaller circuit boards, smarter phones and higher quality screens. Currently the trend seems to be to master the transparent LCD screen and Samsung is taking some steps forward as we speak.

The electronics company recently showed off its 14-inch transparent LCD screen on a laptop at the International Flat Panel Display (FPD) Show in China 2011. According to Life at Most, the transparent laptop has a 1680 x 1080 pixel resolution and has a white LED unit installed in each corner of the display.

It’s a futuristic-looking machine but it’s reported that the display is just a prototype for now. Samsung is hoping to release this display later this year while transparent display is expected to be widely available by the end of this year.

For all the gizmo lovers out there this story may come as quite a shock. Those who have laptops and work with them on their laps may want to reconsider their working routine; the warmth from the laptop on your legs can cause “toasted skin syndrome”.

Toasted skin syndrome, according to experts, is a mottled, unusual-looking skin condition which is caused by long-term heat exposure. So if you’re working with a laptop everyday on your lap, you could be at risk.

In one case a 12-year old boy spent a couple of hours playing games every day over a period of a few months. He developed a sponge-patterned discolouration on his left thigh, and the two are believed to be related. Apparently the boy recognised that the laptop would get hot on the one side however he failed to change the laptop’s position.
