Ever wondered what actually goes into making the food you eat? Many of the ingredients used in commercial food factories you would not be able to find in your kitchen cupboards at home. Here are some ingredients that will you make you think twice about the food you love to eat:

Human Hair

Apparently, human hair contains L-cysteine, an amino acid which is expensive to synthesize. According to listverse.com, it is removed from human hair and used to make dough for biscuits and bread more flexible and softer. Wikipedia.org also claims that it is also used to flavor food because when it is mixed with sugar it produces a meaty flavor.

Cochineal Insect

Ever since scientists developed and “perfected” the technology, organic things around the world have been genetically modified no end. The recent online hype around American President Barack Obama’s one-liner quip on the shady fish business at his State of the Union address has, once again, placed the issue of genetic modification in the limelight. I realised as I read an article on the fishy business to do with salmon that I’m not a hundred percent sure exactly how things are modified.
